What is this project?
To plan for climate change and its local impacts on Fayetteville, the City is creating a Climate Action Plan. The goal of the Climate Action Plan will be to inform future policies, programs, and actions undertaken by the City, and to assist the City in its efforts to remain resilient to the anticipated changes in the climate to preserve the quality of life for those who live, work, and play in Fayetteville. Visit the Climate Action Plan web page to learn more.
The Climate Action Plan will be made up of two parts: the Energy Action Plan and Nature-based Solutions. The Energy Action Plan is an existing document created by the City but will be updated to better reflect the current goals of the City. The Nature-based Solutions (NBS) document will be developed to establish goals and strategies that improve ecosystem resilience in the City.
As part of the NBS effort, each parcel within the City of Fayetteville planning area is being assessed regarding their value for providing ecosystem services to help mitigate the anticipated changes to the region’s climate, including intense rainfall, flash flooding, heat waves, and drought.
In November 2021, Fayetteville’s City Council passed Resolution 288-21, requesting the addition of an Ecosystem Services Plan to the City’s existing Energy Action Plan. Combined, these two plans will form a Climate Action Plan for the City of Fayetteville.
How can I get involved?
By taking this survey! Your contribution will help the City understand what the goals and priorities should be for the Climate Action Plan. Thank you for your participation!
